get your space ready for the mosquitoes of summer

march 5th first things first, summers coming and with that possible mosquitoes.. we enjoy being in our gardens and edible oasi but let’s keep away those mosquitoes in a natural healthy way that smells yummy yummy yummy
Now one option is to replace your grass with a lawn of thyme, or perennial garlic grass, (which is about 10 inches tall (which I actually found has done quite well in my yard)).
Though to be honest, whatever plant you get to keep away the mosquitoes, whether its rosemary, garlic, lemon eucalyptus, lemon balm, citronella grass or a nice soft cushy patch of lemon thyme, none of it works all that well unless the leaves get crused and the oils are released… and probably the easiest one to crush as you are walking by it, is lemon balm,

But, personally of all the choices, I find thyme the easiest low lying ground cover (which if you get the right kind, you never have to mow) in order to release the lemon scent into the air…,
so I highly recommend unless you are using that grassy patch to play sports on constantly, that instead you replace your regular grass with THYME , particular a lemon/lime/citrus smelling thyme, though they might all be equally effective…

Its my dream one day to completely get rid of all the St. Augustine or Bermuda grass i have and replace it with thyme.. When you order your thyme, if you would be so kind as to order your thyme through one of my links (and make sure my ID code#161493.21482  is on there, then you could help me save up enough store credit for my own dream lawn of thyme.. yummmmmmm) Thank you!

 pretty purple carpet thyme:

wild thyme: (seeds & plants)

lemon thyme: small upright bushy, dark green leaves

Lime thyme:

Creeping Lemon Thyme (more aggresive then the wild thyme but with white flowers instead of purple) up to 20cm/8in thick. Strong lemon scent

now Richter’s has a mosquito guard collection of 12 plants that they put together for your patio or small area which is made of Creeping Lemon (3), Lemon Carpet (3), Highland Cream (3), Purple Carpet Lemon (3)
but remember you will want it somewhere that you will often crush the leaves.. like if you are in an apartment, you could maybe put it up on the balcony where you rest your arms…. or next to where you are sitting or where your rest your feet  in your patio
